Launchy is a great, free utility that makes access to programs much simpler. Developed as open source, it lets you open nearly any program, file, folder, or Web site on your system easily with just a few strokes off your keyboard. Once you’ve installed the software, it runs smoothly in the background until you press a hot-key (by default Alt+Space for Windows) which brings a small window to the middle of your screen.

The user can enter the name of any executable app in this menu, and let the utility scans the catalog for any matches. Just press enter to execute the most relevant query, whose icon and name are conveniently shown on the top of the window.

The software is highly convenient and comes as a welcome relief for those of us who have grown tired of sifting through all the clutter on the start menu to find the program we need. With its easy-to-use interface, Launchy is very easy to get used to and I found myself  using it constantly within minutes of installing it.

Mozilla has released the final version of Firefox 7 for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android. Firefox 7 is the fastest Firefox available yet, and the new feature that is worth mentioning here is that now it consumes up to 50% less memory than the all previous releases. No major UI changes so far but you will notice that the http:// prefix is now hidden by default.

Firefox for Android also brings speed boost and better memory management. Besides usual bug fixes and enhancements it also improves the copy/paste feature. Now you can copy any site content to any text filed in your Android device. Firefox 7 for Android is available for smartphones and tablets running Android 2.0 or above. Mozilla has just released the final build of Firefox 6 to public. The newer version doesn’t include big changes. Firefox 6 brings enhanced performance with improved start up time and faster Panorama tab groups. Moreover address bar now highlights website’s domain name.

Firefox 6 also includes some new and improved tools for developers to allow them build and debug websites directly from their favorite browser. Scratchpad a new tool allows developers to quickly enter, execute, test and refine JavaScript snippets in Firefox without needing to work in a one-line console.

Following its rapid release cycle, Mozilla has released the Firefox 5 beta for Windows, Mac and Linux. After five weeks of testing Firefox 5 in the Aurora builds, first beta of the Firefox 5 is now available for public download. Firefox 5 beta brings several performance and stability fixes, easy channel switching, support for the new CSS Animations standard and more.

Along with the beta for desktop, Mozilla has also dropped Firefox 5 beta for Android devices. The new beta brings support for Do Not Track feature, improved performance, smoother scrolling and many other bug fixes. Firefox for Android is compatible with devices running Android 2.0 or later.

The final version of Firefox 5 for both desktop and mobile will be released on June 21.

More than 385,000 copies of Firefox 4 have been downloaded and the number is growing rapidly. Mozilla has just released the Firefox 4 RC 2 to fix the last minute bugs. RC 2 was’nt in the schedule but its seems that developers have found bugs that needed to be fixed before the final release. Firefox 4 final build is set to released on March 22.

Mozilla has released the Firefox 4 RC (Release Candidate) for Windows, Mac and Linux. This build fixes bugs and brings stability, performance, and compatibility improvements. According to Mozilla 70% of Firefox adds-on are now compatible with the Firefox 4 and more than 8,000 bugs since the first beta release.

Mike Beltzner the Director of Firefox says “this RC represents the code we intend to ship as Firefox 4″. Means there are no more changes that needs to be included in the final version. Firefox 4 is almost ready and we are expecting the final release within next fifteen days.
