Try Android 2.2 Froyo on PC or Mac

Google announced and released Android Froyo 2.2 recently with a tremendous increase in its speed that has been increased upto 2-5 times faster speed with apps. Some new features includes USB tethering, wifi hotspot functionality and more. We posted about how you can try the platform on your PC or a Mac for the previous versions and now we are doing it again and this time its for Android 2.2 Froyo. Follow the guide below and test the latest mobile platform from Google yourself.
1. Download Android SDK (Windows,Mac and Linux) from here.
2. Extract the file and run “SDK Setup.exe”

Note: If you receive an error message stating “Failed to fetch url…” then you will have to force the Setup program. Follow the steps:

  • Close the “Refresh Sources” window.
  • Cancel the “Choose Packages to Install” window.
  • Select “Settings” from the left side of the “Android SDK and AVD Manager” window.
  • Check the box labeled “Force https://… sources to be fetched using http://…”
  • Click “Save and Apply”
  • Close and restart the SDK Setup program.
3. Choose “SDK Platform Android 2.2, API 8, revision 1″ package to install and reject the other packages.
4. Allow the selected package to download and install.
5. Create a new Android Virtual Device (AVD) by selecting “Virtual Devices” from sidebar.
  • Enter a name e.g “Froyo”
  • Choose a Target ( Android 2.2 – API Level 8 )
  • Enter a size for the emulated SD Card
  • Choose a Skin or enter Resolution e.g 800×600
  • Click “Create AVD”
6. Now click “Virtual Devices” from sidebar.
7. Choose the Virtual Device and click “start”.
8. Wait for the Android to load.
9. Done! Enjoy the new Froyo.
