Google revealed its long awaited Operating System Google Chrome OS on November 19, 2009. Google Chrome release date was set to mid of 2010. The demos, screenshots and other much more were revealed at Mountain View, CA. And the Chromium OS source code was made available for the developers. The next day Chrome OS was successfully made to run using Virtual Machines like VirtualBox and VMPlayer. Still many users were facing some problems. I will try to solve their problems also.
The Chrome OS is a totally Web-based OS. It takes 7 seconds to boot. At login menu you need to enter your Gmail account details to access the Chrome OS. Means without Internet you can’t run Chrome OS. Chrome OS will be available for Netbooks supported by Google only. But maybe hackers make it to work on other machines. For the present it doesn’t looks that Chrome OS will kill Windows.
If you want to try the Google Chrome OS on Windows Xp, Vista or 7, Mac OS X or Linux then follow the steps given below:
- First you need Chrome OS image. Download the torrent here.
- Now download VirtualBox (Select the download according to your OS).
- Run VirtualBox. Click on the “New” button.
- A window will appear click next button.
- Name the OS as “Chrome OS”. From OS type Select Linux and form version select “Other Linux”.
- Select the amount of RAM you want allocate to Chrome OS.
- Click Next Button and select “use existing Hard disk”
- Select the Chrome OS images you downloaded.
- Click next and click the finish button. Now a start button will appear click on it.
- Enjoy the new OS.
Solution to some Problems (Worked for me)
- If you face network Connectivity failure then in VirtualBox click Settings>Network, Select Adapter type to “PCnet-Fast III” and from attached to select NAT. I hope it will work.
- I have tried it on Windows 7 first but got the Connectivity Problem then I try it using Windows Xp the problem get solved. I checked the Network Settings in Windows Xp and applied them in Windows 7, it also solves the Connection problem in Windows 7.
- If it is not connecting using a Gmail account try using another Gmail account.
