Untethered Jailbreak by GeoHot

by hadi on March 26, 2010

A good news for iPhone 3G S, iPod Touch 2G and 3G users, GeoHot will release an untethered jailbreak for your devices. GeoHot first tweeted the link to Official Dev-Team requirements for a genuine video of an “untethered jailbreak”. According to Dev-Team “A good jailbreak video can’t be faked by other means. For an “untethered jailbreak”, a video should meet these requirements:

  1. Unobscured ipod Touch 3G (“ipt3g”) in full view at all times resting on a table with nothing connected except earbuds
  2. Show “Voice Control” app working
  3. Reboot ipt3g using keypresses
  4. When ipt3g comes back, install a Winterboard theme that changes your homescreen background. To make the video even shorter, already have this theme installed and just show it still working after the reboot, with your non-black homescreen background (what shows up behind your app icons).

And the video posted by GeoHot have met all these requirements. GeoHot posted in his new post:

“See the video here.

I believe it meets the requirements for a good video.

The jailbreak is all software based, and is as simple to use as blackra1n. It is completely untethered, works on all current tethered models(ipt2, 3gs, ipt3), and will probably work on iPad too.

Don’t ask about a release date. You won’t make it happen any sooner.”

So still nothing about ETA. But its a good news for those who connect their iPhone to Blackra1n every time they reboot it.
